Response from Secretary of State's Office


"There is no citation or documentation in the law that says you have to be an attorney to hold the office of State's Attorney. The Statute is silent on it and because it is not there it is not a requirement in the law." Kathy DeWolfe - Vermont Secretary of State's Office
 
BRANDON AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CANDIDATE'S FORUM

Rita will take part in the Candidate's Forum, sponsored by the Brandon Area Chamber of Commerce on October 26th at 7:00pm, held at the Brandon Senior Citizen's Center.

Discussion Forum

Rita held a Discussion Forum yesterday at the Rutland Free Library. Rita had the chance to meet residents of Rutland County as well as the chance to speak openly and answer questions and concerns from the citizens.

 

 
Rita Phelps to Host Discussion & Voter Registration Drive

Rutland, October 21, 2006 at 11:00am- Rita Phelps, Candidate for Rutland County State's Attorney will be hosting a Discussion Forum at the Rutland Free Library in "The Fox Room". The Forum was designed for Residents of Rutland County to have the opportunity to meet face-to-face with Rita, allowing time to ask questions regarding her experience, goals, plans for the State's Attorney office and what she stands for.

Rita feels very strongly that her Campaign should be based on the community she wishes to serve; she hopes that this encourages the community to attend. Refreshments will be served.

If you are not registered to vote, we will have a Voter Registration drive after the Discussion if you wish to register.

RITA IS EVERWHERE

Rita has been everywhere- Rutland, Rutland Town, Fair Haven, going door to door, meeting face to face; meeting the community she hopes to serve! Signs have been waving, Ad's have been placed, Forums planned; and this is just the start. November 7th marks Election Day, Rutland County Citizens will have a chance to speak loud and clear that we need a change, a new direction for the State's Attorney Office!

She say's "She is articulate, she is incorruptible, and she thinks through difficult problems with the wisdom of experience. She is a leader - but can also be a team player when that is what is called for."

Rita Phelps to appear on PEG-TV & Encourages questions from Residents


Rita Phelps, Candidate for State's Attorney will be featured on 'F.Y.I', a public access show on PEG-TV. Cheryl Hooker, interviews Rita about her campaign, will discuss key points of her campaign, her legal experience and crime facts in Rutland County. The show will air on channel 21 in the following time slots:

Channel 21
Monday 10/9/06 at 9:00 am
Tuesday 10/10/06 at 7:00pm
Thursday 10/12/06 at 12:30 pm.
Sunday 10/15/06 at 8:30pm.

The State's Attorney position does not require a candidate to be an attorney, Legislature saw fit to make this a non-attorney position, an administrative job, allowing for direction, setting an agenda, and most importantly priorities for the State's Attorney office. Rita's campaign has setup an email address for residents of Rutland County to contact her with questions, comments or concerns.

Rita feels very strongly that her Campaign should be based on the community she wishes to serve; she hopes that this encourages the community to ask her questions about her campaign and what she stands for.
